As the title suggests, this is obviously a light jig. No. No, sorry, it’s another atmospheric grungy and intense nightmare. You need to hear this loud - and with bud earphones tucked right in. Read the rest of this entry »

dad the skipper
The sun sets as pelicans drift slowly overhead. And as the living ship pulls away from the harbor, the little children wave to their Grandad. This time, it will be his last voyage.

venusian technology
Eight million years ago. The feuding Venusians are fighting a fifth world war. A moment’s reprieve and as they look to the skies, a fiery meteor storm showers down on their tiny, angry planet. For a few moments - they are at peace.

Strolling down grey streets, you pass a cafe. Raskolnikov with Mishka and Karlos play a trio - piano, violin and tuba. Time for a Russian Caravan Tea.

Here it is. 20 hours to record and 8 hours of mixing later and it’s still not quite right. I downloaded a 40 day trial of Truepianos, which is a bit expensive at around $200. I only have 30 days or so of that left. I output the tracks from Live individually so that I could mix them in Adobe Audition (which can also be downloaded for 30 days free). Live has a pretty poor onboard mixer, but I’m a bit over that software - it either hangs or outputs bad files when I try to master. Need to work out how to slave Live to Audition. Tried to get the boxed version of Live, but they rarely reply to emails. Real smart.

computer
This one was very unexpected. Very Tangerine Dream. I opened a file on the computer and there was an unfinished Live project. I’m not sure if Live is the best thing for this kind of music / atmospheric stuff. Enjoy this one. It was originally done for Lis Hoffmann’s doco, “Dogs On Vincent” - but this is a total remix. Way too dark for that film.

Eds new H4 plus cheap headphones
A piece I’ve been doodling around with for a few weeks. Thought I’d get it up here before the site dries up. Recorded my mate, Terry’s alarm clock tick and put it through a Resonator. I also used a plug-in called Dr. Device to mangle a short piano piece I’ve been working on. Still not quite right - but you get the picture. Need to do something more with those kids.

guitar fret
This is a beat-warped wav version of a bass line sample we’ve been faffing around with. It’s backed by a midi percusssion set in Ableton Live 7 and is presently a bit thin, so we might put in some guitars and a bit of subtle synth.

This is our first tune. You are at our first gig.

This ambient track using unnatural nature sounds is our first foray into the now-affordable world of digital music making. It was recorded at Mum’s house in the dining room while she watched Channel 7’s digested version of I, Robot. This is the first track of our unwritten album, Ontology. The idea is to sketch out a few tunes and re-upload them over the original as we work into them - finally producing a digitally downloadable album. That’s the ten second dream. That and to jam all night on Dad’s boat down at Blackwall Reach, Bicton.

Synths : Ed
Guitars : Dan
